The parish actively supports the work of three organizations engaged in providing vital social services to individuals and families in need, locally and across the Metropolitan Chicago Area.
The Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry provides hunger relief to families from Oak Park, River
Forest, and 10 other zip codes in Cook County. Individuals & families who use the pantry must meet annual income guidelines set by the Illinois Emergency Food Assistance Program. Benefits Counseling is available to assist persons seeking to apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
and other forms of public aid.
St. Leonard's Ministries is part of Episcopal Charities & Community Services (ECCS),
a network of eleven social services agencies operated by the Episcopal Diocese
of Chicago. St. Leonard's Ministries provides interim housing, temporary &
permanent housing placement assistance,individual & group psychological counseling, substance abuse
treatment & support, life-skills development programs, education and
employment services for men and women released from prison. The overall rate of recidivism in Illinois exceeds 50%, while the rate among men & women who complete
the program at St. Leonard’s Ministries is just 20%.
The ReVive Center for Housing & Healing (formerly the Cathedral Shelter of Chicago), another agency of ECCS, provides residential and out-patient
addiction treatment, food distribution, emergency social services, and
supportive housing for single adults & mothers with children. Christ Church joins other congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago to provide gifts and holiday meals to thousands of people in need through the Christmas Basket Program.
